Not all cats are destined for the life of a cozy indoor house cats. Some, like Pantera, will always remain untrustful of people, with a wild, feral side that has been honed over years of struggle and suffering. So, while we always want to give them a safe home indoors, it’s not always possible. Yet adopting such cats can bring many rewards besides deterring rodents. For example, here’s the story of Pantera and his unexpected friendship with a playful puppy on a Virginia farm.
Pantera Was Surviving in the Virginia Woods with a Friend
Virginia vloggers Sarah and Jose went from a hectic and unfulfilling city life to a charming 30-acre farm life, complete with many adorable animals. Two of them are adopted cats: Pantera, a black cat, and Wright, a grey and white kitty. When they found them, the cats had only known life in the woods.
Even though they would never have to worry about food again, the cats didn’t know if they could trust humans. And Pantera was particularly nervous about their motives.
“We adopted [Pantera] with his friend Wright. They were both terrified of us and the indoors and would only eat after dark when they were alone,” shared The Little Cabin That Could.
Pantera Meets a Determined New Friend
While Wright soon opened up to the couple, Pantera always kept his distance. Like many feral cats, he preferred no touch – ever. That is until he met an unexpected new friend! It was a black and white puppy who desperately wanted to be his friend, Ace.
Someone abandoned Ace and his sister on the farm, but they became part of the ever-growing family.
“…soon we saw a new and unlikely friendship start to form between Ace and Pantera,” they shared. “It was nice to see Pantera learn to trust someone, even if it wasn’t us.”
It took the irrepressible and determined puppy to break through Pantera’s hard shell. Ace simply wouldn’t give up, eventually winning over the cat’s trust and affections.
Before long, the duo became best of friends, following one another everywhere on the farm.
“Some of the best friendships are the unexpected ones ♥️,” they shared.
While they can only love Pantera from afar, they fully appreciate him, saying, “Black cats are so underrated .”
Meanwhile, they’re happy to see the dog and cat duo having the best time together every day!
