Here’s to all the Mothers on Mother’s Day and all year long who go to such incredible lengths for their babies! We’d like to include all the mama cats who are giving it all they have to care for their little ones! Every day, rescuers find them out there, trying against all odds to raise a litter in the worst of conditions.
And here’s to all the rescuers and foster moms out there! You are real-life angels, providing sanctuary for vulnerable mother cats and their babies when they need it most!
An Uncommon Ginger Mama Searches for Shelter
Recently, a struggling mama cat named Kate showed up at a home in Illinois. As a ginger tabby, she’s uncommon since about 80% are males like Marmalade. But things were about to get much rarer after she had her litter!
Kate gave birth to eight ginger kittens outside. At any moment, disaster could have arrived. But a guardian angel was watching; a Good Samaritan saw her and set up a cardboard box, hoping she might take shelter. That way, they could keep an eye on her and offer food and water. But Kate had other ideas and didn’t find the box such an attractive option. But where would she go then?
Mama cats are selective at finding strongholds for their babies. But they can also get into lots of trouble when they pick dangerous places like an attic, a wall, a car engine, or even an airplane.
Rescuers and a Foster Mom Come to the Rescue!
This mama might have taken her kittens and disappeared. However, that’s when rescuers from The Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc. stepped in. Thanks to people like Deb, aka ‘shelter mommy,’ Mother Kate would have no worries. She now has a loving foster home, total safety, veterinary care, and all the nutrition she needs to raise a healthy family.
“We are so happy to be able to have Mom and babies off the streets in a fantastic foster home and will eventually be medically up-to-date, and finding their forever homes. Every one of them is absolutely precious. Their lives are forever changed for the better,” Deb shared with Cole and Marmalade.
An Octuplet of the Cutest Ginger Babies
Kate’s octuplet of kittens is picture-purrfect in their foster home. Among them are five ginger girls, an unusual high number. They all inherited orange genes from both parents. In comparison, males only need to inherit one orange gene which is always found on the X chromosome. That’s why males are much more common but we can’t explain why they’re so extra!

As you can see, the foster mom is having lots of fun with this all-orange tabby family!
As you can see, it’s a challenge to tell who is who!
“It is very difficult to do a head count with this group. They keep moving, and you have to start over since they’re all identical!” the foster mom said
Thanks to being well-fed, Kate didn’t have any problems keeping the milk bar open 24/7 for her insatiable customers.

Cat Man Chis Helps Celebrate 5 Years and 2000 Rescues!
Cat Man Chris traveled all the way to Crystal Lake, Illinois, for a wonderful occasion: the Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc.’s fifth anniversary. In such a relatively short time, this rescue, which was inspired in part by rescue efforts with the Cat Man, placed 2000 rescued cats and kittens in homes. But the number of lives touched is vastly larger when you factor in all the cats’ families.
“Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc. today at the Margaritas and Meows event. It’s always great to meet fellow cat people, and especially Cole and Marm fans. #PurrtyTime,” shared Cat Man Chris.
We’re thrilled to see how far these rescuers have come and how many cats and kittens they have saved! Happy Mother’s Day from Cole and Marmalade. We love you!
“So proud of Deb, Diane and the rest of the Purrfect Cat Rescue crew, they have a beautiful shelter in Crystal Lake IL ” Cat Man Chris shared.
