What would you do for a chocolate bar? How about three adorable rescued kittens named after chocolate bars? Oreo, Hershey, and Kit Kat are three kitties with sweet names and purrsonalities to match! They were also among the luckiest of kittens, rescued when two guardian angels had a hunch they were lost and needed help.
Three Kittens Caught in a Cemetery
Although the Chocolate Bar kittens’ stories have happy endings, their early days were anything but! In late summer, a mom and daughter duo of rescuers from the Bronx were driving when they saw something sad: a cat lying dead by the side of the road. While most folks would have kept driving, something told them to stop and check for kittens in the nearby cemetery.
How amazing is it that these two women took the time to go and look for unseen kittens on the side of the road? And, their instincts proved correct when a curious tabby kitten appeared in the tall weeds.
Caution: the video below may be disturbing for some viewers.
“We had the feeling that there might be kittens roaming around, so we decided to stop and take a look,” shared Bronx Stray Cats.
First, they spotted a brown tabby, later named Kit Kat, running toward them for a bite to eat. But then, they found two black and white cuties, named Oreo and Hershey. All were so hungry they couldn’t resist a tray of wet food, but without a live trap, the rescuers couldn’t catch the skittish feral kittens.

The Whole Box of Chocolates
Thanks to supporters, the rescuers bought a live trap and returned to the cemetery again to collect the ‘Chocolate Bar’ kittens. In addition to getting the trap, they also had to wait for approval from the cemetery office. But after several long days, they were finally approved and headed straight over.
It took a while to catch all three sneaky kittens, but eventually, it was sweet success! From now on, the cutie pies would be living the ‘VIP life.’
“There’s two black and white tuxedos, which we’re going to name Hershey and Oreo, and there’s a brown tabby , which we’re going to name Kit Kat.”

After catching them, it was time for a visit to Dr. Kolbert, who is always happy to meet the rescuer’s kittens. But the kittens generally aren’t as happy about the situation.
“I think Kit Kat is not happy to know we’re taking them to the veterinarian. ”
After many repeat trips to the vet, the Chocolate Bars were doing great and as cute as kittens could be. As with most kitten born outside, the sisters had fleas and parasites. But with medication and vaccines, they all recovered. Soon, they were looking like the prettiest cats you’ve ever seen.
Despite being alone in the cemetery for weeks, they soon lost their feral instincts and became the sweetest kittens.
Unboxing Oreo and Hershey
By November, the rescuers shared the ameowzing news: Oreo and her brother Hershey were adopted together! They were 5 months old by that time, and it was bittersweet to see them go home. But the foster moms were still thrilled to share the unboxing of the two adorable chocolates in their furever home.
“We are beyond thrilled to announce that Hershey and Oreo found their forever home together. ,” shared Bronx Stray Cats. “We are so happy the girls were adopted specifically by this family because they have adopted from us before. We know Hershey and Oreo will be unconditionally loved, and well cared for the rest of their lives. It’s a bittersweet moment for us, but like kittenxlady says: “Goodbye is the goal of fostering.” ”
KitKat Goes Home for the Holidays
In early December, Kit Kat’s family came to take her home, where she has a new sister named Luna, who is black and white like Kit Kat’s siblings. The girls looked happy under the Christmas tree. Now, Kit Kat will always have a safe and loving home and she turned out to be a stunning meowdel.
“You won’t change the world by fostering a cat, but you will change that cat’s world,” Bronx Stray Cat shared.
We previously shared the story of Arthur, a gentleman rescued orange tabby saved by the same mom and daughter volunteer duo. It looks like he’s still seeking a home at the time of this writing. If you are in the Bronx area, you can follow and support Bronx Stray Cats on Instagram and Facebook.
